Whales Swimming Under The Northern Light

Harald Albrigtsen witnessed a couple of surprise guests while recently taking in the beauty of the Northern Lights over Norway. The photographer, who was filming a video for Norwegian public television (NRK) at the time, observed two humpback whales swimming under the bright green, glowing backdrop. They were spotted off the coast of the island Kvaløya near the city Tromsø.

The creatures in the clip—which you can view below—appear subtly as the waves of the water slowly begin to build and increase in size. At a few points in Albrightsen’s video, they’re seen coming up for air and show themselves to lucky spectators. Coupled with the spectacular sky, the whales add another layer of natural wonder to the already-gorgeous scene.
