Amazing photo This Lake is Pure Lava In this amazing photo we see the lava lake at Mount Nyiragongo , an active stratovolcano inside Virunga National Park, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The volcano has erupted at least 34 times since 1882, creating various-sized lava lakes that have formed, cratered, drained and reformed. The image above (taken in 2011) shows the most recent iteration of the mountain’s lava lake. It was formed from a 2002 eruption.

Dun Briste, an Impressive Sea Stack at Downpatrick Head  About 5 km north of the village of Ballycastle in Mayo county near the Irish coast stands a striking headland called Downpatrick Head. Towering 126 feet above the sea, it offers fantastic views of the Atlantic, the Staggs of Broadhaven to the west, and high cliffs along the shore. The name Downpatrick is derived from a time when St Patrick himself founded a church there. You can still see the ruins of the church building, a stone cross and holy well at the top of Downpatrick Head.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park – Pandora on Earth The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in the Chinese province of Hunan features gigantic pillar like rocks, the kind you see throughout the movie. Only difference is they aren’t floating. They are the result of many years of erosion. The weather is moist year round, and as a result, the foliage is very dense. Much of the erosion which forms these pillars are the result of expanding ice in the winter and the plants which grow on them. These formations are a distinct hallmark of Chinese landscape, and can be found in many ancient Chinese paintings.

Incredible Lunar Eclipse time-lapse photography Many saw the lunar eclipse that occurred on December 21, 2010, which happened to coincide with the date of the December Solstice - only the second time since 1638. For those who weren't able to marvel at this natural phenomena, time-lapse photography captured what we missed. The event took five hours and 38 minutes and was photographed every two minutes. Out of hundreds of shots taken, 61 photos were compiled into this long, sequential series of the increasingly-shadowed moon.
